Ryan Sarah Murphy My sculpture consists of common, everyday objects displayed in a spare, often fragmented manner. Using mostly found objects such as old clothes, books, wood, and household odds and ends, my work consists of items that once served a specific purpose but have since been discarded. I am drawn to materials that carry with them a personal history or story of use that will never be known.
Using such objects, I create new forms that suggest notions of identity, containment and the boundaries between the private and public. I am interested in the deconstruction of ideas and definitions, often resulting in structures that consist of segmented components.
