My work in video stems from my interest in social and political identity, the unconscious mind and in the possibility of liberation. I draw on iconic relationships in order to raise questions about unchallenged definitions of self and power.

Through a visual vocabulary of icons, symbols, and stereotypes -- such as the clenched fist, the American flag, blackface, and the figure of the maid -- I decompose meaning, utilizing various strategies including visual repetition, video looping, and performed actions.

My projects simultaneously combine drawing, performance and video.   I refer to the work of Philip Guston, Marina Abramovic, and Robert Gober, as well as to Buddhist concepts of impermanence and Carl Jung's notions of the unconscious.
