My work in sculpture, drawing and photography is driven toward the expansion of space in our perception, sensitizing the passage between the senses of vision and touch, and leading the viewer toward a more direct relation with herself. I’m interested in the notion of drawing as an imprint rather than an image, as a reciprocal presence in space rather than an optically based depiction. I use drawing as a skater’s half-pipe on which I navigate and re-approach the erotic nature of space.
In my work I explore the way we perceive ourselves within space, and what difference it makes for that perception to radiate from a physical body. As the sculptor Juan Munoz said “science tells us that space is homogenous; it’s a sculptor’s job to say it isn’t so”. My current body of work, called Tripe Prelude, uses tripe as a drawing tool and a sculptural paradigm.
