Barbadian born Alfred Weekes has been creating wire sculptures since 1979. His work is sold throughout the Caribbean and North America. He first joined with wire artist John Flavius and curator Anderson Pilgrim in a business partnership before establishing WEEKES' WIRECRAFT. He has exhibited alongside the most talented artists and artisans in the Caribbean and has been a perennial prize-winner in the Barbados' National Arts and Crafts Competition. In 1993 Mr. Weekes was a prizewinner at the All Community Arts Group Show in Brooklyn, New York, and he was judged BEST IN SHOW at the 1993 Manchester Art Association Show in Manchester, CT. November 1993 saw the opening of Mr. Weekes' landmark exhibition with John Flavius, held at the New York offices of the Barbados Tourism Authority. Since then he has exhibited at 479 Gallery, Soho, NYC, December 1994, and the Barbados Consulate, NYC, as part of "Traditions", September 1995. Mr. Weekes' first one-man exhibition, "In Person", consisting entirely of colorful relief sculptures, was held to critical acclaim at Brooklyn Moon Cafe. NYC, August 1998. His unique creations have since been exhibited at Satta Gallery, Brooklyn, NY; New Century Artists Gallery, Soho, NYC; The OAS Gallery, Washington, DC; and Art Off The Main Art Fair, Puck Building, NYC, Mr. Weekes' work is held in private collections throughout the Caribbean, Europe, and USA.
