I was born in Queens, New York, the third child of creative parents. My mother was a milliner and my father was a photographer, carpenter, and the neighborhood fix-it guy.

I am a mixed-media artist that has been living in Harlem, New York for twenty-plus years. My business, Shimoda Accessories, has a range of work that includes beaded jewelry, fiber and book arts.
The jewelry is made with fresh water pearls, semi-precious stones, and various treasures from around the world. I create joyful art to connect you to the sacred oneness of all life.
When I create, I never know what the outcome will be. I let the spirit flow through me and be with the process. Wonderful ideas reveal itself when I don't resist. The fiber art came about when I was healing from surgery. I didn't feel like making jewelry at the time and I picked up a piece of felt and started embellishing it with beads and embroidery. Little did I know that it would lead me to demonstrating a felt project on HGTV's Crafting Coast to Coast. My process is to be open, get out of my own way, observe and let the miracles happen.

Shimoda Accessories are sought after by fashion editors and stylists who have helped bring the collection to the consumer via the Cosby Show, Essence, YSB, Black Elegance, Class, New Word, a host of local newspapers and the highly touted "Jumping the Broom: The African-American Wedding Planner" by Harriette Cole. The visibility of Shimoda Accessories has been heightened by entertainers Queen Latifa, Halle Berry, Whitney Houston, Cassandra Wilson, Kim Coles and Vernon Reid, actress Angela Bassett, actor Ben Kingsley, supermodel Naomi Campbell, filmmaker Ayoka Chenzera and the former president of Spellman College, Jonnetta Cole. When the toy company Mattel, Inc . Unveiled their "Shani" doll, Shimoda Accessories was chosen for the fashion show adornments. In Harlem, Shimoda Accessories is available at ZZAJ Gallery and Grandview.
