I’m most attracted to art with social relevance, that leaves a tangible account of the soon to be history of the day. I see art as an opportunity for individuals to express the experiences of their time from their own autonomous perspective. In my recent work I’ve been looking at issues of the black family: its history, and its future in the face of the constant deterrents of social circumstance, namely the disproportionate number of incarcerated black males. I’m interested in examining the dialectical relationships between past ideals, uncomfortable realities, vision and love. I collage, print and paint together both fictional and non-fictional historical references (i.e. film stills, photography and literature), with original and contemporary elements to develop my work.
