The main theme of my work is about the ambiguity of a dream or fantasy. It is about a mysterious world that exists between reality and illusion. Through the process of mark- making, I produced dreamlike images. I focused on the process rather than the end result and allowed myself to be open to many possiblities or directions that could develop. I hope that the viewer will also experience the same sense of possibility.

Combining layers of Mylar, each layer with a different painting, I meant to create a sense of time and order. But by shuffling the layers, time and order can be recreated. There is no set reality then, but rather several possible realities, each suggesting a different order and time sequence. In most paintings on canvas, the artist tries to create the impression of space, but the result is mostly an illusion. With my method, the space is real – the viewer can see the gap between the layers of Mylar and paint. The illusion becames a vivid reality.

With layers that can be shuffled, a painting that could seem to consist of monotonous elements suddenly takes on a new life. The painting is no longer constrained by the painter’s habits, because habitual patterns of markings are rearranged or even destroyed when the layers are reodered.
