I carefully peek through my camera into the world, focusing on scenes of solitude and
alienation—such as forgotten corners, the view out of a window or onto an empty
landscape. It is obvious that human beings live in or frequent the places I photograph—their
presence can be felt—but they remain mostly unseen. I am interested in what is left behind
after the people have gone, in feelings of longing and belonging, in distance and closeness.
These ethereal, dreamlike photographs are taken during my daily wanderings and journeys
with a simple polaroid camera. The slightly altered colors, soft focus and tilted camera
angles enhance the feeling of looking into the world from the outside and create a quiet,
otherworldly atmosphere that is reminiscent of memories or dreams.
The finished prints are miniature treasures—averaging 4x4 inches. They are
presented in little treasure boxes, in small frames or in clusters that are directly
adhered to the walls.
