Catherine Newman Artist Statement I am an abstract painter. My aim is to reveal the essence of a thing or idea and portray it as whole, timeless and transcendent. My imagery is drawn from familiar themes recognizable and made deep with a life and rhythm of their own. Figuration is my primary subject although some forms may be ambiguously perceived as still life or landscape as well. Bright colors, lush surfaces and a fluid line dominate. Shapes turn, float and ride the plane. Throughout this work there is no separation between form and content.
