Artist Statement I create art to go through boundaries. My work reflects my individual experience and vision, with an effort to communicate my attitude toward the world. The decisions I make while painting are made on the basis of intuition and feeling. My criterion of when a work is finished isn't by how beautiful it looks, but how true it is to my vision and experience. My painting is a reality among realities, which has been felt and formed and intended to be experienced. It is a pattern of choices made from the realm of possible choices, which gives my work its form and color.
My work fuses elements of Abstract Expressionism, Pop Art and Graffiti, to illustrate my individual urban idealism. The relationships between objects within the visual realm are rendered through the use of vivid color and multi-media. My work involves a critique of the social cruelty throughout the United States and around the world. I explore issues such as race, politics, the influence of mass media, police brutality, and human abuse for economic gain. ©David Shrobe | | Black President silk screen and mixed media on board 2008 |
